So what do ya want to know?Hello everybody! My name is Brock Silas-Groves. I guess I'll take some time here and talk about myself :) I've had this website now for somewhere around 4 years. I've always been interested in photography since i was a little kid but it wasn't till I went to Culinary School that I decide to make it a reality. I bought a point and shoot camera and just hit the ground running. Its been a blast. I walked all over San Francisco shooting everything I could. Then I would go home and load them in photoshop and spend all night tinkering with 'em till they were just right. Four years and a new camera later I'm living in Minnesota still wondering around looking for stuff to shoot. Some background history and what I currently do would be nice eh? Well I grew up in the Mojave Desert in Southern California. Had a great childhood, graduated in 2003 then moved to Bakersfield. Then I moved to Santa Maria. Then I moved to San Francisco. Then I moved to a different part of San Francisco. Then I moved to Palm Springs. Then I moved to Kauai, Hawaii. Then I moved to a different house on Kauai. Then I moved to another different house on Kauai. Then I moved to another different house on Kauai. Then I moved to the Twin Cities in Minnesota. phew...*pause* I'm out of breath.... ok, so theres all the places I've moved. At least once a year! In between all that I've been to 4 commmunity colleges. Around the world Twice. And I went to a Culinary School. Life's a blast and I'm just enjoying the ride. So currently I live outside of Saint Paul, MN. I work at a restaurant in South Minneapolis. Its a nice place, small kitchen, but we do some serious covers. We have 37 Taps of beer and 150 different bottles of beer. Yeah, after workings there for 9 months my knowledge of beer has gone through the roof. So, thats the past and the current. Enjoy.
EquipmentRight now I'm using a Nikon D300 as my camera body. I have a Sigma 50mm f1.4 lens for it. I'm going to be buying a Tokina 16-50mm f2.8 soon to expand my range of photography I can cover. I dont have a camera bag yet, or a tripod. Working as a chef doesn't mean your rolling in the dough, ha. My point and shoot camera that I've used for many years is a Casio Exilum. Very very nice camera. If anyone doubts the quality of one, just send them to my website for proof of why they are such nice cameras. The next P&S I get will be a Panasonic Lumix LX3. Very sweet camera, but currently my money is being diverted to my Nikon to build up my equipment selection. For a Computer I use a Lenovo T61. its a 15.4 wide screen. I bought it custom built with a bigger graphics card, way more RAM, and a smaller but really fast HDD. Plus its really thin and easy to carry. For Software I use Adobe Bridge to import my photos. Why? becuase of the advanced tagging I can use for my photos as they are being imported. I also use photoshop cs3 from Adobe as well. The only add-ons I use are Nik Software for color changing and what not. So I think that sums it up for equipment. |
